MOVING gracefully and looking resplendent in colourful traditional costumes, nine dancers from Extreme Arts Studio celebrated the Navarathri Festival through a showcase of semi classical dance known as Navaswaroobini with swift dance movements.
The two-hour mystifying dance at Penang Performing Arts Centre (PenangPAC) in Straits Quay, Tanjong Tokong, drew gasps of amazement from the audience.
Directed and choreographed by Prakash, the group consisting of dancers as young as five kept the audience entertained with their moves and various poses.
It was aesthetically pleasing to the eye when the pint-sized dancers took the stage as they moved in unison to the rhythm.
The quick-change costume tricks coupled with spiritual music also left an indelible impression on the audiences during the performance recently.
To mark the nine-day festival, the dance show had the dancers depicting nine forms of Durga (Goddess of Bravery).
All the dancers took the stage in the final act by moving charmingly to portray the nine different forms which are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kaal Ratri, Maha Gauri and Siddhidatri.
The festival ended on Oct 24 after nine days where ardent devotees followed a strict vegetarian diet and prayed to the Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) and Saraswati (Goddess of Knowledge).
